Brad Wilson, armed with a business degree, and Denise Wilson founded Com-Pleat Filters and Paper in 1996, driven by innovation and a deep commitment to faith. Brad’s career began in politics before joining Servair Inc. in 1994, a company focused on filters and finishing systems. Within a year, he identified an opportunity to manufacture in Canada a Swiss-imported accordion filter after its North American patent expired. With generous support from his Servair boss, Brad launched Com-Pleat while continuing as sales manager. Together, Brad and Denise engineered custom machinery for the filter—a process that took two and a half years—and by December 1998, they were selling across North America. Denise, an accomplished author and missionary, brought her ministry passion to their business mission. They soon recognized a demand for flatline finishing systems that could produce tailored filter sizes, eliminating the need for trimming. This breakthrough helped them build strong, enduring relationships with leading European machinery manufacturers, creating a synergy where Com-Pleat supplied complementary filters and paper—an approach that has flourished for over 20 years. Their growth enabled them in 2018 to acquire a 90,000-square-foot facility in Orangeville, with 30,000 square feet dedicated to Com-Pleat and Servair operations, and space reserved for the Walking Stick Ministry, which creates items for gospel outreach at fairs and festivals. When a customer inquired about sourcing paper for flatline systems, the Wilsons embraced the challenge. Despite the complexity of sourcing and converting the right paper in-house, their persistence paid off, securing a significant share of the North American market.
